Lenten Stational Churches

Here is a really good devotional on the Stational Churches during the holy season of Lent. It is from St. John Cantius Parish home of The Society of St. John Cantius.

  • At S. Clement's in Philadelphia we have encouraged interest in the Stational Churches at Rome by celebrating a Solemn Mass with the Litany, Stational Prayers, and Benediction of the Relic of the True Cross on the Monday after the Second Sunday in Lent, the day on which the station is kept at San Clemente. Since the observance of Lent in Rome is so closely tied to the cult of the martyrs, many of the relics will be exposed for veneration.

For those who would like to attend, this year the observance will occur on Monday, March 13, at 7 p.m. A PDF of the service is available on request (I don't think it will be posted to the web site).
